The HFA is in possession of a nearly 2,000 movie trailers and theatrical advertisements, mainly on 35mm. These have come into the collection through a variety of donors. The trailers cover the last seventy-five years of cinema history, the majority of which are from US films and US releases of European titles. The collection is rich in original IB Technicolor trailers. Some oddities are represented, such as advertisements for soda, jeans and video games. The 16mm trailers in the collection came from hobby collectors, and were probably originally made to be shown on television.
