Acclaimed photographer Lauren Greenfield provides a probing and intimate look inside the world of an eating disorder clinic in her debut film. Lauren Greenfield’s debut feature continues the thematic project of her acclaimed monograph Girl Culture, which skillfully examines body image concerns among women. This vérité documentary focuses on four women struggling to overcome the devastating effects of eating disorders. Set within the walls of a southern Florida clinic in which the women are seeking treatment, this remarkable portrait overcomes the distanced stance of observational cinema by offering a sympathetic rendering of their struggles. Greenfield also provides a fascinating insight into a process of recovery which often puts differing modalities of treatment (social, psychological, biological) at odds with each other.
