Realist Escapes: Two by Dominique Cabrera

Algerian-born filmmaker Dominique Cabrera has proved successful in producing both fiction and nonfiction works all of which are imbued with her uniquely sensitive, introspective style. She once said, “You do not progress from documentary to fiction, it's all cinema. You do not have an idea for fiction or documentary, it's just what format would work best.” We present an example of each of these formats in a brief reflection of this director’s growing body of work. These two films share a thematic element by using film and video as a means of escape but hardly escapism.
