Rudolf Arnheim Centennial Celebration

This year marks the 100th birthday of Rudolf Arnheim, one of the greatest living visual culture theorists in the world. As one of the most significant representatives of the second generation of the Berlin gestalt theory, Arnheim made groundbreaking discoveries in the realm of the psychology of art in America, a field he taught with great passion at Harvard University. His acclaimed texts including Film as Art, Art and Visual Perception and Visual Thinking have become the core texts in visual education. In collaboration with the Department of Visual and Environmental Studies, the Harvard Film Archive presents a screening of documentary work inspired by these seminal writings.
