A bloody but important episode in Taiwanese history is brought to roaring life in this historical epic. In the first decades of the twentieth century, some of Taiwan's indigenous peoples rebelled against Japanese occupation. In 1930, a Seediq warrior named Mona Rudao forged a coalition of several tribes and led a full-scale attack, now known as the "Wushe Incident." That story is retold in this, the most expensive film in Taiwanese history, produced by John Woo and directed by Wei Te-Sheng, a former associate of Edward Yang
