Harvard Film Archive Visiting Artists Collection

The Harvard Film Archive Visiting Artists Collection is a collection of material documenting visitors to the HFA's cinematheque. The largest series of material includes streaming digital audio files recorded of each filmmaker visiting the HFA's cinematheque starting in 2008. Recordings include pre-screening introductions by HFA curators and programmers and personal introductions by filmmakers as well as post-screening question and answer sessions between curators, programming staff, audience, and filmmakers. Additional materials include photographs and video recordings of select visitors.

Research

Individual audio recordings along with transcripts are available on their corresponding program pages on the HFA website and are being updated as they become available. Please contact the HFA Collections Archivist if you would like access to material that is not yet available online.

Includes visits by American auteur Arthur Penn, American independent filmmakers David Gordon Green (George Washington) and Lance Hammer (Ballast), German director Jan Schütte (Love Comes Lately), Irish director John Boorman (The General), and Korean filmmaker Lee Chang-dong (Secret Sunshine), as well as avant-garde filmmakers Nathaniel Dorsky, Lawrence Weiner and Ernie Gehr.
Harvard Film Archive Visiting Directors Audio Collection, 2009
Includes visits by mulit-talented American directors William Friedkin and Paul Schrader, Swiss director Hannes Schüpbach, African director Abderrahmane Sissako, as well as experimental filmmakers Ken Jacobs, James Benning and Stephen Prina as well as legendary HFA projectionist Steve Livernash.
