Born in Seoul, Korea, Gina Kim completed her BFA degree in Seoul National University, School of Fine Arts. Using video diary format, she explored her identity while at Cal Arts, where she received an MFA in Film/Video. She is a recent recipient of KOFIC (Korean Film Commission) independent film production award. Invisible Light is her first feature film.

At a young age, Gina Kim has already mastered the art of autobiographical documentary. In her video diary, she demonstrated the ability to capture the subtle depths of emotion. These talents are echoed in Kim's debut narrative feature, where lingering, meticulously framed shots expose the turbulent and varying emotions of inner struggle and psychological extremes. Choi Yoon Sun and Lee Sun Jin give daring performances as two US-based Korean women faced with despair, and struggling to reclaim their mental strength. Armed with a patient camera, Kim provides an unflinching gaze into both characters’ darkest hours, and discovers the precarious balance between resilience and fragility. Achingly beautiful, Invisible Light establishes an important new voice in Asian American cinema.
