Screening on Film
In conjunction with the exhibition "Landmark Pictures: Ed Ruscha/Andreas Gursky," currently at the Busch Reisinger Museum, we are pleased to present this program of rarely seen films by the celebrated West Coast artist Ed Ruscha. Best known for his artist’s books, which feature photographs of such fabled elements of the L.A. cityscape as gas stations, parking lots, and swimming pools, and for his innovative text-based paintings and prints, Ruscha also experimented in the film medium. Premium (1971) is based on the Mason Williams short story "How to Derive the Maximum Enjoyment from Crackers" and stars artist Larry Bell and model Léon Bing. Miracle (1975) features artist Jim Ganzer and actress Michelle Phillips in a tale about a strange day in the life of an auto mechanic.
The exhibition’s curator, Linda Norden, Barbara Lee Associate Curator of Contemporary Art, will introduce the screening.
