Small Axe by Steve McQueen
2025-2026 Norton Professor of Poetry

In one of the few times Harvard's historic Norton Lectures will be delivered by a filmmaker, internationally renowned British filmmaker and artist Steve McQueen (b. 1969) has been appointed Charles Eliot Norton Professor of Poetry and will impart his wisdom over six talks this fall and spring. On this exciting occasion the Harvard Film Archive is pleased to present McQueen's celebrated five-part anthology Small Axe, a remarkable exploration of the collective experience of the British West Indian community during the crucial period from the 1960s through the 1980s. Small Axe will also be the focus of McQueen's second lecture on October 21.
