Svankmajer’s Faust is an inquisitive Everyman who, exiting a Prague metro, is handed a map which leads him to his Mephistopheles in an abandoned theater. Brimming with seductions of the supernatural, shape-changing demons, puppet versions of characters from Goethe, leading Faust, attracted by satanic promises, toward his doom.
