Minh-ha’s intensely personal Surname Viet Given Name Nam weaves dance, poetry, and politics with interviews with Vietnamese women from North Vietnam, South Vietnam, and the United States. By giving voice to their experiences as well as her own, Trinh highlights the struggles of women in both traditional and contemporary societies and raises questions about identity and culture.
