Fogo do Vento follows the workers as they harvest grapes until one young woman cuts herself and her drops of blood on the ground lead down a mythopoetic narrative path. When the workers climb into the trees the film enters into a Calvino-esque suspended, floating space-time, a long night where they are granted the freedom from work to share their dreams, memories and weave counternarratives that recall the deeper, contested history of their country and land. A richly sonorous film, Fogo do Vento embraces a choral mode of narrative that gives poignant musical voice to the fragile promise of community and land justice awakened by the Carnation Revolution of 1974. – Haden Guest
