(En Forårsdag i Helvede)

Free Admission
1976, digital video, color, 111 min.
Danish with English subtitles.

Danish filmmaker and poet Jørgen Leth's documentary of the 1976 Paris-Roubaix bicycle race chronicles one of the toughest bicycle races in the world, passing as it does over cobblestone lanes in the French countryside. Legends Eddy Merckx, Roger De Vlaeminck, Freddy Maertens, and Francesco Moser vie for the trophy, as various obstacles including a strike (of course), weather, and crashes try to bring them down.

One of the best bicycle race documentaries ever made, A Sunday in Hell is filled with poetry, drama, and cinematic beauty. – Liz Coffey
