The Wolf Knife
With Christina Kolozsvary, Julie Potratz, Dave Cloud.
USA, 2010, digital video, color, 100 min.
Framed by discomforting camerawork and floating along the strange, desolate surfaces of suburban south Florida, two teenage girls break away from their bored antics and alienated homes to embark upon a special mission to Nashville. Jealousy, duplicity, and bizarre encounters accelerate the development of their ambiguous bond that continues to grow deeper and more dangerous. An extension of Nakadate’s confrontational installation and video work, The Wolf Knife cuts through trite notions of innocence and sexuality by uncomfortably stalking the girls’ inarticulate, aimless relationship with each other and with their voyeuristic onlookers, audience included.– Brittany Gravely
Presented in conjunction with the exhibit Laurel Nakadate: Say You Love Me in the Carpenter Center’s Sert Gallery from November 17 – December 22.
